CARES Nomination

Violence Prevention East would like to invite you to nominate a student for the CARES award.

We are looking for a student in Grade 9-12 who demonstrates the following:

C – Citizenship. The student works to make their school and community a better place.
A – Advocate. The student has been a leader or active in violence prevention activities in their school
R – Respect. The student respects people and property. They treat others the way they want to be...

February is Violence Prevention Month and during this month VPE will be raising awareness of the many types of violence and its impacts. VPE will be partnering with Community partners and the schools within the region to offer resources and grant funding to provide safe spaces within schools and violence prevention activities in your area. Violence Prevention East will be giving out a community grant up tp $500.00 for a community project. The community grant is to implement anti-violence/Violence Prevention activities in their local areas. For more information contact Tracey Fleming at vpe@bellaliant.com

Sexual Violence Awareness Week is from Sept 17-Sept 24/18, Violence Prevention East will be giving out drink coasters to local bars on Consent and will be putting up posters in bathroom stalls on Victim Blaming. Please take a min to read and to be aware of what is happening within your surroundings.
Also, throughout the community you may spot min-flashlights that VPE has given out with alarming stats attached.

1 in 3 Women worldwide experience some form of sexual violence or partner violence.

1 in 6 Men experience sexual violence.

Approximately 1 in 2 women over the age 15 in NL will experience at least one incident of sexual or physical violence in their lifetime.

Violence Prevention East, will be distributing local placemats to restaurants on June 15 in our region with information on Elder Abuse, Financial Abuse, What Should I Do and Where To Get Help? Call 911 for emergencies or situations requiring the police. November 25th is International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

We are looking to the business community to help us create awareness and prevent violence against women by hanging purple lights in their local business window.
